SoHo (shorthand for south of Houston), can be found in lower Manhattan and has become a popular tourist destination for all things fashionable. Before its change to a trendy locale, SoHo was known as the Cast Iron District due to many of the buildings incorporating cast iron architectural elements. The area's low rents and spacious studio lofts initially attracted artists of the time as space in which they could live and work. The neighbourhoods association with the arts began and has continued to expand ever since due to it's "hip" reputation and exquisite architecture.
This already sounds like a place me and my camera would love!
SoHo is also the back drop for movie locations (hitch, spiderman & men in black) as well as fashion shoots. It is the home to many celebrity stars and includes an electric mix of unique boutiques, high street and designer stores including; Prada, Chanel, Urban Outfitters, Marc Jacobs, Victoria's Secrets and H&M- the list is endless. Not only is SoHo the 'must see' tourist location in terms of fashion, it also thrives on its artistic background and includes several famous galleries which hold numerous art openings and events throughout the year. Whether it's local pubs, stylish lounges or elegant wine bars, SoHo seems to have all entertainment avenues covered with a wide variety of restaurants, bars and theatres. (Even the Kardashians have recently been spotted during a night out here!)
All this research on SoHo kinda makes me a teeny bit jealous of my pals touring it round NYC with their camera's in hands and purses at the ready. I'm totally loving the vibe of this area, the cobbled streets and artsy feel- the amazing shopping also helps I think!
